1.) My copy of Cherry Tree arrived today! I can’t tell you how exciting this is. It’s a really beautifully put-together journal, and I am delighted by the quality of writing in it. Especially for an inaugural issue, it’s stellar. I haven’t had a chance to read all the way through it–that will take me a while-but I will take a moment to brag that a Jericho Brown poem shares the other side of the page of one of my poems. I’m…probably not worthy of that.
I’ve spent the past year writing as much as I can and submitting to as many journals as I can possibly make myself, and I’m finally beginning to see some of the results of that, and let me tell you, it feels good. Finally getting a few poems out of my head, out of my computer, and into the world for others to read has been very, very validating.
2. I have a post up at Lit Witches! I reviewed The Undertaking by Audrey Magee. Here are a couple lines from my review that capture my opinion of this wonderful book: “First of all, this novel (Magee’s debut) is about Nazis. Literal Nazis. And it is to Magee’s credit that she has the talent to craft such a magnificent and moving tale of humanity out of the dregs of Nazi Germany.” I really surprised myself with how much I liked this book. It will haunt me for a long time…in the best possible way. So, click over if you feel compelled!
