About

Kate Gaskin is the author of Forever War (YesYes Books 2020), winner of the Pamet River Prize and a Nebraska Book Award. Her most recent book of poems, A Red Knock-Knocking like a Heart, is forthcoming from LSU Press in spring 2026.

Her poems have appeared in journals such as Ploughshares, The American Poetry Review, The Southern Review, and The Rumpus, and her work has been anthologized in the 2019 Best American Nonrequired Reading. She is a recipient of a Tennessee Williams Scholarship in poetry from the Sewanee Writers’ Conference, as well as a fellowship from the Vermont Studio Center. She has also been awarded the 2017 The Pinch’s Literary Award in Poetry and the 2023 Ralph Hamilton Editors’ Prize from RHINO Poetry. In 2022 she was a recipient of the Maureen Egen Writers Exchange Award sponsored by Poets & Writers.

She has a PhD in English from The University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Currently she serves as the director of The Adroit Journal’s Summer Mentorship Program, and she is also an assistant poetry editor for TRP: The University Press of SHSU. She lives in Montgomery, Alabama.
